Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP12002003 Kawasaki JET SKI 800 SXR

Commemorating the 30th anniversary of JET SKI® watercraft, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., launches the 2003 JET SKI 800 SX-R watercraft, the first all-new Kawasaki stand-up in more than 10 years. Designed for both the accomplished enthusiast and the beginning recreational rider, the 800 SX-R boasts an advanced hull design, increased engine displacement for more power, increased stability and better performance.

"Beginning and intermediate riders will have an easier time riding the 800 SX-R and will enjoy the challenges of reaching new skill levels," said Patrick Kelly, product manager, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. “And because it’s built to excel on the race course, experienced enthusiast riders will enjoy the increase in power and added stability."

The 800 SX-R is powered by a high-performance, twin-cylinder, 782cc two-stroke engine and produces the most horsepower available in a production stand-up JET SKI watercraft. It is fed by a pair of 40mm Mikuni carburetors and features a waterproof and maintenance-free Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) system with digital advance. Aggressive exhaust port timing provides superior top-end power while the water-jacketed exhaust pipe and aluminum muffler reduce underhood temperatures and suppress noise.

Rather than add the additional weight of an oil injection system, the 800 SX-R engine runs on a pre-mixed fuel/oil mixture. This allows serious enthusiasts to fine-tune their mixtures for various conditions.

The hull of the 800 SX-R is wider and longer for increased stability yet does not sacrifice turning prowess. This increased stability not only enhances rough-water handling for racers, it also makes it easier for beginners to master stand-up riding more quickly. The wider hull also allowed the designers to create more footwell area to give the rider more room to maneuver, vary foot placement and shift body weight. The handlepole placement is designed for optimum control and comfort. Soft padding covers the tray area for improved rider comfort as well.

Quality of materials is just as important as design, so Kawasaki made the 800 SX-R hull out of fiberglass reinforced plastic. This helps to make the hull as light as possible while retaining maximum strength. Extra fiberglass has also been placed in key areas to further improve hull durability and sponsons are placed just under the hull/top deck bond line to enhance turning. The hull's compact size also simplifies transport and storage.

The top deck of the 800 SX-R is also made of fiberglass reinforced plastic so that it is tough and damage-resistant. Other features include integrated foam flotation that is built into the deck and handlepole to make the 800 SX-R virtually unsinkable.

Pro Ski National Champion Chris MacClugage and the entire Kawasaki JET SKI® Racing Team will compete aboard the 800 SX-R in 2003.

"The 800 SX-R is better than anything else out there because of its power, stability and excellent handling," said MacClugage, after test riding the newest stand-up JET SKI watercraft. "It will give me a big advantage in defending my Pro Ski national title."

The 2003 Kawasaki JET SKI 800 SX-R watercraft - an all-new stand-up built by the only company with 30 years of experience in manufacturing stand-up watercraft and a strong heritage of championship racers on the personal watercraft racing circuit.

Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP1200Kawasaki JET SKI Ultra 130 Watercraft

The two-passenger Ultra 130 D. I., released last year to rave reviews, returns to Kawasaki's watercraft line-up for 2003. Popular Mechanics stated in its April 2001 issue, "This PWC from Kawasaki is a great all-around machine. It is a competent tourer, priced in the meat of the market, and possesses the agility and power to keep up with almost anything on the water. With fuel injection and Kawasaki's Smart Steering system, it's at the head of the pack in PWC technology."

The Ultra 130 D. I. Combines features of two of Kawasaki's most advanced watercraft plus the company's breakthrough Smart Steering system. It utilizes patented Ficht Fuel Injection technology taken from the 1100 STX D. I. Combined with the high-powered, high performance features of the Ultra 150.

Designed as a high performance two-passenger personal watercraft featuring precise handling, direct injection and the Smart Steering system, the Ultra 130 D. I. Gives watercraft enthusiasts a high performance boat with added environmental benefits.

The Smart Steering system detects the rider's steering input as well as the speed of operation and automatically increases engine speed to provide additional thrust. This advanced steering technology continuously monitors engine rpm to determine if the craft is being operated at a low or high speed. If the speed is low, the system does not operate. If the speed is high, the system will operate, even if the throttle has been released and the engine has returned to idle.

Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP1200 Kawasaki JET SKI Ultra 150

Using the feedback from years of racing, the 2003 Kawasaki JET SKI Ultra 150 watercraft is designed as the perfect powerhouse for personal watercraft enthusiasts, including champion Kawasaki JET SKI watercraft racer Chris MacClugage. The nine-time national champion, ranked as one of the top riders on the International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) racing circuit, has seized numerous victories on this high performance musclecraft.

As would be expected of a race-winning watercraft, the Ultra 150 boasts the most horsepower of any JET SKI model with a 1,176cc three-cylinder, two-stroke engine. The intake manifold is angled back 45 degrees to create a downdraft effect for the trio of high-flow, constant velocity-type carburetors. A variable speed oil pump reduces oil consumption and exhaust smoke. The result is more power and better efficiency under a greater variety of operating conditions.

Each of the three aluminum cylinders has its own water jacket to ensure cooling capacity matches the high power output. The cylinders utilize lightweight, wear-resistant Nikasil plating for maximum heat dissipation and counter balancers at both ends of the crankshaft to make this the smoothest running Kawasaki triple ever produced. The engine is also rubber-mounted in the hull for a comfortable, vibration-free ride with reduced structural noise.

The engine is fed by triple 40mm constant-velocity carburetors, providing smoother throttle response and better fuel economy. The carburetors are linked to the direct current digital capacitor discharge ignition (DC-CDI) system by the Kawasaki Throttle Responsive Ignition Control (K-TRIC) throttle-position sensor. The system works by using independent timing maps for each cylinder based on engine speed and throttle opening for quick throttle response and acceleration.

For maximum engine performance, the Ultra 150 uses a water-jacketed dry exhaust system that separates cooling water from the expansion chamber, allowing exhaust gases to flow completely dry and free from power-robbing water vapor. This water insulation also suppresses engine noise and lowers the temperature of the aluminum exhaust components for reduced engine compartment temperatures.

Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP1200 Kawasaki JET SKI 1100ZXi

The 2003 Kawasaki JET SKI 1100ZXi watercraft provides maximum fun at a minimum price. The sporty two-passenger watercraft boasts high performance, quick handling, sharp turning and a full line of features at a price that's pleasing to the pocketbook.

"At the heart of the 1100 ZXi is the proven 1,071 cc three-cylinder 120 horsepower engine, capable of propelling the ZXi to speeds reserved for musclecraft just a few short years ago," said Patrick Kelly, product manager, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U. S. A. "This durable marine engine provides power over a wider rpm range and is less stressed than smaller displacement high output designs."

The 1100 ZXi has three 38mm constant velocity (CV) carburetors that provide crisp throttle response, smooth acceleration and better fuel efficiency. It also boasts intake manifold balance tubes and an eight-petal crankcase reed valve designed to help boost low- and mid-range power providing a wider powerband.

A sensor in the waterproof digital capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) system holds the advance of the ignition curve when engine speed suddenly increases - such as when the craft momentarily loses water contact - to provide quick throttle response upon landing. There is also a temperature compensating function that advances timing when intake air temperature exceeds 95 degrees, helping reduce power loss on hot days.

Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP1200Kawasaki JET SKI 1200 STX-R

Kawasaki's newest addition to its broad line of industry-leading personal watercraft gives serious riders out-of-the-crate performance potential that will make them the envy of fellow enthusiasts.

The new JET SKI 1200 STX-R watercraft combines facets of two of Kawasaki's premier models, the JET SKI 1100 STX D. I. and the JET SKI Ultra 150, into one personal watercraft that highlights exceptional acceleration with competition-level handling. Taken from the championship-winning 1100 STX D. I., the hull of the 1200 STX-R provides stability combined with a smooth ride and precise cornering in race conditions. The hull has been lightened to improve acceleration, while high-performance racing-type sponsons combine with a new racing-style pump cover to provide "grip" for more aggressive turning and quicker planning. The 1200 STX-R hull is made of hand-laid fiberglass, gel coated for a deep, lustrous, scratch-resistant finish and features the molded-in Kawasaki Splash Deflector (KSD) to help minimize spray on the rider.

The newest addition to the Kawasaki product stable uses the same engine design as the powerful Ultra 150, the company's fastest JET SKI watercraft. The 1,176cc three-cylinder, two-stroke engine has an intake manifold angled back 45 degrees to create a downdraft effect for the trio of high-flow, 40mm constant-velocity carburetors. A variable speed oil pump reduces oil consumption and exhaust smoke, thereby increasing both power and efficiency.

The carburetors are linked to the direct current digital capacitor discharge ignition (DC-CDI) system by the Kawasaki Throttle Responsive Ignition Control (K-TRIC) throttle-position sensor. The system uses independent ignition timing maps for each cylinder based on engine speed and throttle opening to provide quick throttle response and acceleration.

Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP12002002 Kawasaki JET SKI® 1100 STX D.I.

The 2003 Kawasaki JET SKI® 1100 STX D.I. watercraft is the culmination of technology evolved from over 25 years of building watercraft and represents the “state of the art” for hull, pump and engine development. As such, the 1100 STX D.I. boasts high performance, direct injection, Smart Steering™, low emissions and three-passenger fun for the whole family.

And, the 1100 STX D.I. meets the Environmental Protection Agency’s exhaust emission standards for the year 2006 and beyond. “The 1100 STX D.I. design allows it to meet EPA standards without any loss in the incredible performance of the reliable and fuel efficient 130 horsepower engine at the heart of this great watercraft,” said Patrick Kelly, product manager for Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A.

The 1100 STX D.I. is also equipped with Kawasaki’s industry leading Smart Steering technology.Under certain conditions, Smart Steering provides turning action even if the throttle is not applied. The advanced computerized system of the 1100 STX D.I. detects the rider’s steering input as well as the speed of operation and automatically increases engine speed to provide additional thrust. It also continuously monitors engine rpm to determine if the craft is being operated at a low or high speed. If the speed is low, the system does not operate. If the speed is high, the system will operate, even if the throttle has been released and the engine has returned to idle.

This Smart Steering technology assists riders in learning to negotiate turns and to maneuver. Experienced riders may not feel the system functioning since they realize throttle application is
required during turning. In the March 2001 issue, Powersports Business magazine proclaimed the Smart Steering system to be the “most innovative feature of the year (in the PWC industry).”

Using Fichtä Fuel Injection technology, refined by Kawasaki for this application, this luxury watercraft promotes not only technology and performance but environmental awareness as well. The 2002 1100 STX D.I. is designed as the ultimate three-person personal watercraft with impressive performance, ultra-smooth acceleration, efficient fuel economy for increased riding range, noise reduction and lower exhaust emissions that help keep the environment clean. Direct injection technology gives the 1,071cc triple-cylinder two-stroke engine many advantages. Throttle response is nearly instantaneous while exhaust smoke is almost non-existent. Plus, the design uses approximately one-third less fuel and one-half less oil than comparable carbureted personal watercraft.

Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP1200Kawasaki JET SKI 900 STX

High performance, versatility and reliability mark the many benefits of the 2003 Kawasaki JET SKI 900 STX watercraft filled with top of the line features at a competitive price.

The 900 STX combines Kawasaki's proven, reliable three-cylinder 891cc powerplant with the smooth riding, easy handling characteristics of the 1100 STX D. I. Hull. This combination creates a stylish watercraft with plenty of performance and opportunities for family fun. The three-passenger 900 STX also boasts a wide range of power, with more than enough to tow skiers, tubers or wakeboarders with ease.

The hull of the 900 STX is made of hand-laid fiberglass and gel coated for a deep, lustrous, scratch-resistant finish that features the molded-in Kawasaki Splash Deflector (KSD) to help minimize water spray on the operator. Personal Watercraft Illustrated magazine agrees, as stated in its May 2001 issue, "Thanks in part to the Kawasaki Splash Deflector, the 900 STX offers a rather dry ride; if you have the urge to get wet, you'll have to jump off into the water."

High performance sponsons, borrowed from Kawasaki's top of the line 1100 STX D. I. Model, help get the hull up on plane and provide more aggressive "grip". The hull also features a deep keel and long strakes located close to the center of the deep-V. These design enhancements give the 900 STX better wave cushioning, excellent cornering, increased top speed and greater stability.

Cape Cod Powersports; Yamanha GP1200Kawasaki STX-12F

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of JET SKI® watercraft, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., is introducing the most technologically advanced JET SKI watercraft ever to take its position on the water - the 2003 JET SKI STX-12F. The STX-12F offers a highly efficient engine design and ultra low emissions at a lower manufacturer's suggested retail price than any other 2003 four-stroke personal watercraft.

The all-new three-passenger STX-12F watercraft combines Kawasaki's proven four-stroke, four-cylinder technology with the popular design and features of the highly regarded JET SKI 1100 STX D.I. watercraft. The STX-12F boasts excellent towing capabilities to pull skiers, tubers or wakeboarders with ease, and efficient fuel economy for touring and exploring plus ample storage for personal items.

"Kawasaki has 30 years of experience in building high performance, four-stroke engines, from the original Z-1 motorcycle to the current generation of NINJA® sportbikes," said Patrick Kelly, product manager, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. "Power for the new STX-12F comes courtesy of the legendary Kawasaki NINJA® ZX-12R motorcycle - one of the most powerful and advanced engines in the world."

Adapted for use in a JET SKI watercraft, the 1,199cc water-cooled engine with dual overhead camshafts pumps out plenty of power for optimum performance and boasts low emissions while purring quietly on the water. The environmentally friendly

STX-12F meets the strictest existing emission standards for both the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). In fact, the STX-12F already meets CARB's ultra-low "three-star" rating, a full five years ahead of time.

The engine of the STX-12F weighs 11 pounds more than the engine of the 1100 STX D.I. and is only slightly larger in overall dimensions. The STX-12F features dual overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, fuel injection and an electronic engine control unit (ECU) that harmonizes the fuel system and the ignition system to provide maximum performance and reliability.

The fuel injection system utilizes four injectors and a single 54mm throttle body to provide fuel for this NINJA-based engine, resulting in smooth power delivery and instant starting in both hot and cold weather.

The engine's highly tuned exhaust system is water-jacketed to help reduce underhood temperatures and keep the STX-12F running as quietly as possible. The STX-12F also features dual water mufflers for very low exhaust noise. The large capacity airbox is specially designed to reduce noise levels and the engine is rubber-mounted in the hull.

The STX-12F features an open-loop cooling system that utilizes an intake filter and draws cooling water from the jet pump, providing the STX-12F with consistent operating temperatures for maximum performance.

Unlike the ZX-12R motorcycle, which uses a clutch and transmission to supply power to the rear wheel, the JET SKI STX-12F utilizes a direct drive axial-flow pump that is connected to an oval-edge, stainless steel, three-blade impeller. The STX-12F direct drive has no gear reduction unit, allowing the STX-12F's engine to turn a lower rpm for less stress and wear and tear, less vibration, less noise and better fuel consumption. A reverse function allows for easy maneuverability in tight quarters.

The STX-12F is also equipped with Kawasaki's most advanced steering technology - Kawasaki Smart Steering™. Smart Steering detects the rider's steering input as well as the speed of operation and automatically increases engine speed to provide additional thrust. The advanced steering technology continuously monitors engine rpm to determine if the craft is being operated at a low or high speed. If the speed is low, the system does not operate. If the speed is high, the system will operate, even if the throttle has been released and the engine has returned to idle.

Kawasaki Smart Steering can assist riders in learning to negotiate turns and to maneuver, making turning easier and smoother. Experienced riders may not feel the system functioning since they realize throttle application is required during turning.

The STX-12F's deep-V hull is made of fiberglass and gel-coated for a lustrous, scratch-resistant finish and features the molded-in Kawasaki Splash Deflector to help minimize spray on the operator. The one-piece hull construction increases durability while decreasing weight, and high-performance sponsons help get the hull up on plane and provide "grip" while the hull design facilitates precise cornering, increased stability at high speed and a smoother ride in rough water.

The STX-12F boasts a sporty design with its stylish deck and angular seat, offering a muscular look befitting a high-performance watercraft. The handlebars are located in a cab-forward position to provide plenty of room for the rider, plus abundant floor space provides room for the rider's feet. There are even footrests to help stabilize a rear-facing spotter when pulling a skier, wakeboarder or tuber.

The open rear deck features abundant space easily used for getting into skis or as a diving platform. Reboarding in deep water is simplified with the automatically retracting boarding step located at the rear of the hull.

The rear deck can also accommodate a cooler or other items needed for a day on the water. The STX-12F features water-resistant storage space, an easily accessible glove box and front storage compartment. A hydraulic damper holds the front storage hood open, allowing easy access until the operator closes it. Another large storage area is located under the seat.

The STX-12F's large fuel tank allows for longer rides between fill-ups and an easy-to-read LCD instrument panel allows riders to monitor fuel level as well as speed, engine rpm, trip distance and time. Warning lamps alert the rider to low fuel level or high engine temperature. In addition, there is a magnetic keyed ignition switch to help deter theft or unauthorized use.
